The Power of Pilates
Most broadly, Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that aims to develop long, lean muscles that work in balance to increase strength, flexibility and muscular endurance. Pilates is a mind-body exercise performed with a profound inward focus, harnessing the power of your mind to get better physical results. You may be familiar with Pilates in the work you see regularly in gyms with equipment such as a reformer, pilates chair, tower or cadillac. Whether done with or without equipment, the exercises involve slow, precise movements and breath control. The abdominal and back muscles are often collectively referred to as the body’s core. Pilates is seen as a mind-body exercise practice that strengthens the core by developing pelvic stability and abdominal control. Pilates stretches, strengthens, and aligns your body all at the same time. Who couldn’t use a little of that?
At Connect PT, we are fans of Pilates because it also complements nearly every other fitness endeavor. Incorporating a variety of approaches in our exercise diet makes so much sense! We don’t limit our nutritional diet to just one food group, we eat fruits, vegetables, grains and meats. In the same way, integrating strength training, stretching, mind/body integration, cardio, balance all work together for a more healthy you. Adding Pilates into your regular routine will help you to perform better in sports and activities you love.
In order to better integrate Pilates into Connect PT’s exercise diet, we are excited to be adding a Pilates mat class. Even more than that we are thrilled about being able to do that in collaboration with a fantastic fitness professional, Shannon Coffel Vial. Shannon trained with Deborah Lessen in New York and has taken that training and coupled it with 22 years of Pilates teaching experience for an approach that is creative, detailed and innovative. Shannon’s classes will be starting next week. Join us for an opportunity to explore Pilates and become a healthier you!
